MARINA suspends safety certificate of ferry that caught fire off Bohol

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 19) —The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) on Monday said it suspended the passenger ship safety certificate of MV Esperanza Star after it caught fire off Panglao town in Bohol province on Sunday.

This means the vessel’s seaworthiness is in question and it cannot be allowed to sail.

MARINA noted that only the safety certificate of MV Esperanza Star was suspended, not the entire fleet of its owner, Kho Shipping Lines.
