Fatal coal train crash in Whitsunday region ends horror day on north Queensland roads

A man has died after a coal train slammed into a car in north Queensland. 

The incident happened at Bogie, south-west of Bowen, about 9pm.

A 50-year-old man from Townsville was a passenger in the car and died at the scene.

The 40-year-old driver suffered serious injuries and was initially taken to the Bowen Hospital, but has since been flown to Townsville.

Police said the two drivers on board the train were not physically injured.
