A North Queensland MP has hit out at an apparent cut in funding for youth services as one social worker tells shocking stories of teen girls forced to couch surf for years.
“There is currently a real lack of facilities anywhere in the Mackay-Whitsunday region that can take on young people on their own,” she said.
“In a lot of cases, we have 14 to 16-year-old girls who are couch surfing for a couple of years until they can get into a crisis housing situation.”
